I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology of Social Behavior in the Social Ecology Department at the University of California Irvine. I obtained my Master of Science in Counseling with emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy. I also am trained/certified in the following evidence based practices/treatments: Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT): A short term treatment to help clients with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), or other traumatic life events. Seeking Safety: A treatment to help clients with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), substance abuse difficulties, a history of traumatic life events,  and high risk behavior, or clients who require help developing healthy safe copings strategies. Triple-P Positive Parenting Program (Standard/Teen): Focus on helping parents manage their child's (All ages up to 16 years old.) behavioral difficulties, potentially helping prevent development of childhood behavioral difficulties, and helping parents build strong, healthy relationships with their children.

My treatment first focuses on building a safe, comfortable, trusting, and honest rapport/relationship. My philosophy is that successful therapy can not occur without such a relationship. Once this is established my treatment will use brief/short-term treatment interventions to help you meet your goals quickly, and efficiently, with attention to ensure that optimal care is provided. With Cognitive Behavioral therapy I can help you understand how your thoughts can affect your feelings, and ultimately how you can put a stop to those unhealthy behaviors/reactions that occur in response to these thoughts and feelings. I also use various other treatment types such as; Family systems, which focuses on reducing conflict, tension, and stress that can prevent a family from being that "happy" family that we all want. "Strength Based"/Recovery Model treatment, which focuses on strengths, rather than your various difficulties/problems. This treatment also will help you build/focus on your personal strengths, those positive aspects of your life, as well as  with identifying those solutions to your life's problems that are so often difficult to see. Ultimately this will empower you with hope, and strength to manage, as well as overcome those problems you face.

My treatment also incorporates various types of play therapy and art therapy. I often use these treatments with children due to my belief that a child should not only benefit therapeutically from treatment, but also have fun throughout treatment. Lastly play therapy and art therapy can also be effectively used with adolescents, young adults, and adults. Along with the above treatments, as well as other treatment types I may employ, brief/short-term therapy can be as effective as long term therapy, especially when you are motivated, and committed to your therapy.  With various treatment types, when clinically appropriate, I also incorporate a child’s/family’s spiritual/religious beliefs. I have found that doing so can empower/strengthen the child, ultimately increasing the likelihood that they will be able to manage, and overcome their mental health/behavioral difficulties.

I always say that making the decision to go to therapy is one of the bravest and most courageous choices one can make. It can be a difficult decision to make, especially if you have never been in therapy, yet such a decision can ultimately "pay off" by signifying the beginning of your journey towards managing, as well as overcoming those difficulties that have been interfering with your meeting life's goals. If you are considering therapy, yet unsure about making that decision to start, I would encourage you to attend a few sessions to see how it works for you. I also offer free 30-35 minute face to face/in office consultations which is another great way to see if therapy with me is something you're interested in.  I have worked with many clients that have never been in therapy, and have various preconceived ideas about how therapy works. I find that most often, after a few sessions, these clients quickly discover how beneficial therapy can be, and they soon look forward to their therapy sessions. Therapy with me also can be ended at any time, and it is a confidential treatment that no one has to know about.

The length of therapy generally depends on your commitment to your personal goals, and your therapy. Throughout treatment we will collaborate to form your goals, regularly examine your progress towards meeting these goals, and I will also provide you with treatment feedback, as well as recommendations. Ultimately you are in control of your treatment, and your personal growth, therefore therapy could last anywhere from 3 months, 6 months, 12 sessions, or any other length depending on various factors.
